About Ginseng

The root of life

Ginseng root

Suffering from fatigue? Low energy? Constantly struggling with flus and colds? Take inspiration from Asian medicine and try ginseng, which is for good reasons called the root of life.

  • Ginseng root contains saponins—active ingredients with proven benefits for your physical and mental health.
  • Yet the saponin content depends on where the ginseng is grown.
  • Ginseng grows well in just a few places on Earth. It grows best in Korea.

Korean ginseng thus guarantees top quality.

Ginseng Growth and Saponin Content

Discover Top-quality Ginseng

Place of origin and 3 other factors determine ginseng quality. (But don’t forget extract purity—the fewer extra substances, the better.)

Place of Cultivation

The country of origin directly affects the number of saponin types (ginsenosides) in ginseng roots. Korean red ginseng has significantly more of these than roots from other parts of the world.

Length of Cultivation

Ginseng root cultivated for less than 6 years lacks the needed strength. Thus extracts from it don’t provide as many benefits.

Processing Method

Drying produces white ginseng, while thermal processing produces the higher-quality red ginseng. And fermenting red ginseng produces the highest-quality extract—with easy-to-absorb active ingredients.

Saponin Content

Saponins (ginsenosides) are the most valuable substance inside ginseng. For ginseng extracts, their content is expressed in mg/g, and values over 60 mg/g are considered premium-quality.

LAVIVANT ginseng extract contains 80 mg/g of saponins and no added substances.

Questions & Answers

Have a question concerning ginseng and haven’t found an answer for it? Write us, and we’ll answer you ASAP.

Can ginseng help with headaches?

Yes. The saponins in ginseng improve blood circulation and stimulate brain activity. Our customers have also informed us that LAVIVANT ginseng extracts rid them of migraines. Ginseng helps you fight headaches, exhaustion, and memory loss, slows down aging, and supplements your medicine for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, kidney problems, and even depression.

I have trouble sleeping. Will ginseng help?

Definitely. You may read in some places that ginseng causes insomnia—but don’t lose sleep over that. While ginseng does have a stimulating effect, unlike coffee or tea it maintains your natural sleep/wake cycle. So you’ll be energetic in the daytime, but you’ll sleep well at night.

Could I overdose on ginseng?

We definitely do not recommend the use of more than 1g of extract daily, and especially not for persons with high blood pressure.

Should I give ginseng to children?

Yes, sometimes. In the flu season, you can give them 0.5g daily, i.e. half of an adult dose. However, ginseng extract is not suitable for pregnant and nursing women.

What’s the story on stress and fatigue?

Ginseng contains a large quantity of substances that structurally resemble the hormones our bodies use daily as a defensive reaction in stress situations. It thus works to fight stress and fatigue. Among other things, ginseng promotes mental activity and improves memory, awareness, and concentration. Users agree that with ginseng bark, they can absorb more information. While not yet scientifically proven, it’s confirmed from experience that ginseng helps to maintain mental balance and thus contributes to psychological stability.

How long should I use ginseng?

Korean ginseng is best used year-round, but especially from autumn until spring. During this period, your immunity is facing the strongest burdens, and it’s good to support it. But you can also use occasional one-month cures—this is mainly done by students in exam periods.

I’ve seen cheaper ginseng extracts. What makes these different?

The quality. While there are many ginseng products in stores, you should never forget to check their saponin content and whether or not they contain red Korean ginseng. If a product has a saponin concentration below 60 mg/g, do not expect any positive effects. LAVIVANT products contain a saponin concentration of 80 mg/g and 34 types of saponins, ensuring that you can be certain you’re investing in truly effective ginseng.

Can I have an allergic reaction to ginseng?

We’ve never encountered such a case yet; on the contrary, ginseng significantly helps against allergies. It subdues their symptoms and even helps as prevention.
